Established in 2017, the Research Program is committed to supporting Alnahda’s mission to promote the empowerment of women as agents of change in their societies.

The Research Program aims to support Alnahda programs to effectively achieve their desired impact and improve the design of policies and programs that target women, by producing rigorous research, pursuing research collaborations, and knowledge sharing.
Our Activities
Scientific Research
Implement research projects that support the programs and priorities of Alnahda Society
Surveys and Data
Review and organize quantitative and qualitative data generated through Alnahda programs and prepare it to be available for research projects, as well as conduct surveys and collect data periodically
Knowledge Sharing
Disseminate research outputs through policy briefs, reports and workshops
Building Research Partnerships
Foster collaboration and partnership with local, regional and international policy and research institutions

Jawaher Al Sudairy
Director of Alnahda Research Center
Al Sudairy is also on the organizing committee of the AACC Rahmania Annual Seminar hosted in collaboration with the Princeton Institute for the Transregional Studies. Previously, Al Sudairy was a Senior Program Manager at Evidence for Policy Design, Harvard Kennedy School. She was also a researcher at the NYU Furman Center for Real Estate and Housing Policy. She also worked as a Strategy Consultant at Monitor Group, as well as held the position of Investment Promotion Manager at the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA). Al Sudairy\'s research focus includes urban regeneration, mobility, housing and social integration. Al Sudairy is a recipient of a Master’s degree at Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation, and a B.A. from Smith College. She also attended the Beijing Capital University in China.

Chaza Abou Daher
Research Manager
She has also worked as a research fellow under Evidence for Policy Design at Harvard Kennedy School (EPoD). Abou Daher previously worked as a research lead at Nudge Lebanon. Abou Daher has four years of experience primarily in economic research and policy analysis with the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Beirut and Mount Lebanon and the American University of Beirut. She has worked on topics related to macroeconomics, economic policy and regulatory impact analysis, health economics and environmental economics and has several published papers in these areas. She is a recipient of a Master’s degree in Economics from University College London in 2013 and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics with Distinction from the American University of Beirut in 2011.

Leen AlHajjar
Research Fellow at Alnahda Research Center
She has worked on research under Evidence for Policy Design at Harvard Kennedy School (EPoD). She has previously worked as a consultant for the World Bank Group and as an intern with the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR). Her research focus includes labor markets and social and humanitarian innovation. AlHajjar graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and International Affairs with a minor in Global Social Entrepreneurship from Northeastern University where she co-founded the Refugee Empowerment and Awareness Campus Taskforce (REACT), a student organization that aims to engage universities in refugee response and the recipient of the 2018 Global Influence Award.

Munira Al Sharif
Coordinator of Alnahda Research Center
She has cooperated with Heights Company Event Management. She has previously volunteered as a translator at the library of Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, and as a translation intern at Saut The Voice of Down Syndrome Society. Munira graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Faculty of Languages, English Translation, Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University.

Dr. Noor Shazli
Research Fellow at AlNahda Society
Noor trained as a health care consultant at Health Innovation International in London, where she undertook comprehensive analytical research on the Middle East and North Africa’s healthcare market. She also attained additional experience as a research assistant at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah. Her research focuses primarily on gender equality and women’s social issues, in addition to the social determinants of health. Noor holds a Master's degree in Population Health from University College London (UCL) with honors, and a Bachelor’s degree in Dental Medicine and Surgery from King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah.

Dr. Leena Merdad
Public health professional and researcher
Leena has a background in population studies, demography and reproductive health. She is currently an Assistant Professor at King Abdulaziz University. She also worked as an advisor for the World Health Organization on maternal and child health. Merdad earned her Doctorate of Global Health from the Harvard Chan School of Public Health in USA and her Bachelor of Dental Science from King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia. Her research mainly focuses on women, adolescent and children’s health and wellbeing.

Leena Al Shohail
Policy Analyst at the G20 Saudi Secretariat
Leena was a research Fellow at Evidence for Policy Design working with Professors Rohini Pande and Rema Hanna on the Policy Research Engagement with the Ministry of Labor in Saudi Arabia. Prior to joining EPoD, Leena was a Research Assistant at the King Faisal Center for Research. She has also interned with CNN, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and several other organizations. Leena holds a B.A. in International Relations from Bilkent University and has completed courses in Economics at the London School of Economics and Harvard University.

Sarah Mousa
Candidate for a Master in Public Policy
Candidate for a Master in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School, concentrating on social and urban policy. She has consulted for PricewaterhouseCoopers and the World Bank on social and urban policy topics in the Middle East. Sarah holds a BA from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, an MA from Georgetown University's Arab Studies program, and is a Fulbright Scholar.
